The Bend Living City Design Project is a series of graphic visualizations envisioning a greener, more sustainable Bend. These images and supporting information were entered in the Living Cities Design (LCD) Competition, sponsored by the International Living Building Institute (ILBI). To find out more about the LCD or ILBI, visit www.ilbi.org.The Bend LCD Project submission was developed by an independent, all-volunteer team of local planners, architects and students in a series of intensive planning sessions conducted in January 2011. Their submission was sponsored by Bend 2030.

Competition guidelines stipulated that all entries comply with the 20 imperatives of ILBI’s Living Building Challenge – and be based on proven and available technologies. Otherwise, no constraints were placed on the concepts presented.

The Bend LCD Project focuses on the central area of Bend, including Downtown. It is built on City of Bend plans, data and forecasts, and designed to be transferable to other parts of the city. It is also consistent with key elements of the Bend 2030 Vision.

The Bend LCD Project team hopes to inspire and inform potential follow-on projects in the community, including higher education and research, neighborhood-based initiatives (eco-districts), ongoing City planning, and green building projects.
